Independent Prague, design stores worth a detour

Prague's most interesting shopping happens in small design stores, galleries and concept shops rather than the international chains. The reward is not simply buying something; it is seeing how Czech makers reinterpret the country's traditions in glass, ceramics, jewellery and graphic design.

CZECHDESIGN is a strong starting point, while BACKYARD brings together independent Czech and Slovak makers in Old Town. Qubus has long championed bold Czech product design and glass. Gallery shops are worth browsing too, especially when you are already visiting Kunsthalle or DOX.

Leave room in the day to wander. The best independent shop is often the one you find between two places you meant to visit.
