Untitled (2021) by Mark Barker is a quietly intense charcoal drawing that explores the raw, elusive edges of the human condition.
Born in 1983 in the UK, Barker’s multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, writing, and installation. His work is shaped by a sustained interest in how bodies behave, break down, and leave traces. He engages deeply with materials traditionally considered peripheral—those that smudge, leak, or stain. In Untitled, this sensibility manifests as a delicate, almost haunted monochrome study on paper, imbued with gesture and the residue of touch.
Throughout his work, Barker approaches the body not as fixed or bounded but as permeable—constantly in flux between becoming and undoing. His art addresses themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and formal instability, creating spaces where psychic and physical states merge and bleed into one another.
Recent exhibitions include Are you more at Between Bridges, Berlin (2024), and the Zürich Biennale at Kunsthalle Zürich (2023).
